    He meant to make a joke. He was exaggerating. We find it funny because we recognize that teenage boys are full of all kinds of uncontrollable appetites and that by the time they’re 16 they want to be completely independent. But that’s not what it “means.” It’s humor by exaggeration, which was one of Twain’s trademarks.
