Do you think boyscouts & girlscouts are sexist?

When I was a child I happened to be in girl scouts for a couple years but I never liked it that much and wanted to join the boy scouts but I was told i couldn’t because I was a girl. Now that I look back on it I’ve been thinking that boy scouts and girl scouts are really quite sexist. Hear me out, in girl scouts we learned to sew, cook and camp (barely) and we did equipment like sell cookies. Now I’m pretty sure thats what most all girl scout troups do. Now my brother was a boy scout and they got to go camping at various seats, build equipment like catapults for fun, learn to tie knots, learn to make fires, go climbing and more. Now seriously, out of those what can guys do that girls can’t?? The girls get to sit in a small room and learn how to sew pillows while the guys are out learning how to make fires and save lives. Personally I reckon that’s sexist in a way. Does anyone agree with me?

I'm eager to hear your comments...

Certainly. It might interest you to know that there are unisex scouting organizations as well, such as Campfire USA.

    No.
But both cater to “stereotypical” activities of each sex/gender.And you’re thinking about this too much, the purpose of girl scouts and boy scouts is to teach team work, acceptance of others, respect, responsibility, equality and hep each child strive to be their best

No. What’s incorrect with learning to cook and sew? What’s incorrect with teaching girls those skills? God, I wish I knew how to sew. By the way, one of my best friends who’s an adult now was a girl scout all the way from kindergarten to highschool and she did learn to tie knots, make fires, and also basic life-saving skills.

No. I despise cooking, not that I can, my husband will cook for me.

No, they are not sexist. Unless it is sexist to promote girls to wear skirts and boys to wear pants.
There are plenty of girls who want to do just as you said, and there are plenty of boys who didn’t. There was no allowance for boys or girls who wanted to step outside of the stereotype.

Too much is excused or blamed through some -ism or another.

The organizations were not sexist but misled and encouraged because parents made their kids join.
Yup, aside from parents, nobody compels anyone to join either of these organizations. If anyone was sexist, it’s the parents, for wanting their son or daughter to grow up as one and be disqualified from different activities. Talk to Ma and Pa, tell them. But don’t blame the organizations. If they were not supported, they would not exist.

NO. AND LEAVE THEM ALONE. IF YOU DO NOT LIKE THE WAY IT IS STRUCTURED, MAKE YOUR OWN.
