[rotating-posts]Hi, i got a small guinea pig day before yesterday, shes around 12 weeks ancient.
She is very very shy, she keeps shaking and wants to stay in her igloo when im around. shes a texel, so she has long curly fur but when i tried to stroke her, it feels like she has two fur knots on either side, which cant feel nice. but when i try to touch her she starts to chatter her teeth. so i don’t know how to cut her knots off without frightening her. or should i wait until shes used to me more?
she only seems to come out of her igloo to eat when i go to class or when im asleep. ive tried hand-feeding her a variety of fresh foods today and she only had a nibble of an apple and she just kept turning away from me. so i place the foods in her bowl and left her to it. then all of a sudden, i heard a noise which sounded a bit like a monkey’s “ooh ooh ah ah” its the first time ive ever heard it so im not sure what this signal is called. but when i went to go try out her she was still in her igloo with her nose poking out. this is my first guinea pig as you can tell!
PS shes not going to be a lonely piggy for much longer, as shes getting a cage mate in a few weeks, a boy piggy had been neutered at the shelter and they’re waiting until its safe before they allow me to take him.
Simple points for best answer!
MANY THANKS EVERYONE!! xx

I would wait till she’s used to you a small more then try to brush the knots out or carefully cut them out(maybe with help from someone else).
Congrats on your new piggy and thanks for doing the aptly thing and getting her a friend!

Leave her alone until she gets use to you.
Take small pieces of apple and sprinkle salt on them. Offer them to her. She will be converted into your friend. Don’t give her any other apple.
It is very normal for guinea pigs to go through all kinds of frightened changes when they go to an new home. I even see the same behaviour in my pigs when i go them into a new cage in my home. I recently place our small Suzzi from her quarantine cage into a nice large cage and she would not come out of her hideie house for 3 days and it was 5 days before she would come out and play. This is a guinea pig that is in the same home, same odors, sounds and same people. It is just very hard for them to go.
There is a splendid way to cool your guinea pig so it will feel part of the house hole and will bond to you. Go to my You Tobe site and view The Towel trick.
http://www.youtube.com/user/GuineaPigPersonals
Wrap your guinea pig in a towel and lie it on your chest while you are watching TV, reading a book, or listening to music, guinea pigs like music. Set it in your lap while you are on the computer, my Miya likes the signal of the keyboard and purrs to it. Carry your guinea pig abut the house with you as you do your your day, guinea pigs adore doing your day with you.
After 2 weeks of doing this for 2 hours a day your guinea pig will be quite cool and will have bonded to you, you will have be converted into is companion.
